Q1.how would you describe Untumble in under 50 words?
Untumble is a design studio and manufacturer of personalized party supplies and specializing in theme Birthday parties. Established in October 2012, we have organized over 500 theme birthday parties since inception and catered to 5000+ customers worldwide.
Q2.Who is the team behind your venture?
Untumble was founded by husband/wife duo – Seema & Sunil Tukrel and is completely bootstrapped. Seema has a background in the textile/garments industry and has a degree in Fashion Technology from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. Sunil is from the Software industry and has worked at several MNC’s before starting Untumble. He has a Masters in Software Engineer from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore.
Q3.How did you come up with this idea?
This was a friend’s idea who had trouble finding supplies for her kid's birthday. The existing market has a very restricted offering in terms of Theme based party supplies and what is available is of very poor quality. There was a dearth of options, customization and quality event management which we wanted to fix and here we are !!
Q4.What was your first order? How did you handle it?What kind of problems did u face?
Our first order was to the USA for Krishna themed party supplies. The entire process was a great learning and challenging experience. From understanding the basics of making quality paper bags to packaging all fragile products for international shipping, an experience we never have forgotten.
Q5.How do you work?
The business has now grown and we have dedicated teams for customer support, production, marketing and logistics. We have a structured process for most aspects of the business but are still a growing company.
Q6.How do you supply products? What are the payment options you give to your customer?
• We have our own portal www.Untumble.com from where we get majority of sales. We also sell on other marketplaces – Amazon & Flipkart. We also have a retail store in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu and have several franchisee applications which we are evaluating. • We have logistics partners for shipping across India and abroad. • Customers pay upfront for personalized goods via Credit Card payment gateways, online transfer, PayTm and all UPI methods. We don’t prefer cash payments.
Q7.What is the biggest hurdle you have faced and are still facing?
• The biggest hurdle that we face internally is man power management. • The other hurdle is GROWTH. Since we are constantly facing man power issues, growth of the company is compromised in terms of speed.
Q8.How did you build your network?
Social media played a key role in networking. Keeping in mind with past experiences, even traditional marketing like paper ads have not given us as much visibility as social media and online ads.
Q9.What one piece of advice you would like to give to young entrepreneurs?
Well, one base rule when you start off is obviously PASSION. With that in place we need PERSEVERENCE. In today’s age of instant gratification, young entrepreneurs want to see instant results. So, our advice would be hang in there when the going gets tough. But at the same time after compete evaluation, cut your losses if you don’t see yourself heading towards profitability and scalability.
